Colwyn was local government district in the county of Clwyd, Wales from April 1, 1974 until April 1, 1996.
It was formed from the merger of the borough of Colwyn Bay, Abergele urban district, and part of Aled and Hiraethog Rural Districts. All these areas are historically in Denbighshire.
In 1996 it was split, with the large part going to the new unitary authority of Conwy, the remainder going to Denbighshire.
Colwyn is twinned with Konstanz, Germany and Roissy-en-Brie, France.
