Chucklevision is a popular children's television show on CBBC following the adventures of the two Chuckle Brothers, Barry (the smaller) and Paul, who find themselves in all sorts of situations that they must cope with. It started in 1987. One of their catch-phrases is "To me, to you!", which also became the title of a children's television gameshow hosted by the brothers. Another catch-phrase runs like this:
- PAUL/BARRY: Oh dear.
- BARRY/PAUL: Oh dear, oh dear.
The show often features the character "No Slacking", whose life is usually comprehensively ruined by Paul and Barry. He is played by the pair's older half-brother Jimmy Patton. His character usually appears one or twice every series.
Their other half brother Brian Patton (who is a double act with Jimmy) has appeared on and off since 1995. His character can often be heard to say "Get out of it!".
Paul is the dominant of the two; it's often due to his blind confidence that the two end up in bother. When he realises he has made a mistake, he often blames Barry. He also tends to make Barry do the hard work and take the credit. However, by the end, poetic justice is usually done and if either brother is to come out on top at the end of the episode, it will invariably be Barry. However, this war between the brothers only happens in about half the episodes. The classic episodes of the show often ended with the brothers running away from some angered third party they had been trying to help.
Trivia
Three early 1990s episodes of the programme were written by Russell T. Davies, who went on to become an award-winning and highly-acclaimed writer of television dramas such as Queer as Folk and the revival series of Doctor Who.
The fifteenth series, broadcast in 2002, saw a landmark. It a continuous serialized storyline, involving the brothers' hunt for a missing ruby.
The seventeenth series featured the first time one of the brothers appeared without their famous moustache. This time it was Barry.
