Bucksport is a census-designated place located in Hancock County, Maine. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 2,970.
Geography
Bucksport is located at 44°34'40" North, 68°47'39" West (44.577934, -68.794173)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 37.5 km² (14.5 mi²). 29.5 km² (11.4 mi²) of it is land and 8.0 km² (3.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 21.39% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,970 people, 1,296 households, and 804 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 100.7/km² (260.8/mi²). There are 1,381 housing units at an average density of 46.8/km² (121.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 97.41% White, 0.03% Black or African American, 0.44% Native American, 0.27% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.13% from other races, and 1.65% from two or more races. 1.14% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,296 households out of which 30.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.5% are married couples living together, 11.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.9% are non-families. 31.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.26 and the average family size is 2.82.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.8% who are 65 years of age or older.
