The Boston Yanks, owned by Ted Collins, started play in the National Football League in 1944. Due to a shortage of players caused by WW II, Collin's Yanks were merged with the Brooklyn Tigers, and stiled as the Boston Yanks. When Brooklyn owner Dan Topping announced his intentions to accept the All-American Conference's New York franchise, his NFL franchise was revoked and all players assigned to the Yanks. After the 1948 season, due to financial woes, Collins asked for a new franchise in New York City, spelling the end of the Yanks.
