Bolinas, California
|
Bolinas is a census-designated place located in Marin County, California in the San Francisco Bay Area. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,246. Located along the coast and accessible only via unmarked roads, Bolinas is perhaps most well known for its reclusiveness; historically, any road signs pointing the way into town have inevitably been torn down by local residents.
Bolinas can be reached from California State Route 1, by driving south on the first road north of the Bolinas Lagoon; incidentally, the road junction is right on top of the San Andreas Fault, which runs underneath the lagoon. Bolinas is also the location of the southern entrance into Point Reyes National Seashore.
Duxbury Point and Duxbury Reef Marine Reserve are at the southernmost extremity of the town.
