Berlin-Mitte

Berlin-Mitte or Mitte is the central-most borough of Berlin (Mitte is German for centre). The area includes some of the most important tourist sites of Berlin (like the Pergamon Museum, Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag, among others), most of which was in East Berlin. In 2001, Berlin's boroughs have been reorganized, Mitte has been expanded to include the boroughs of Wedding and Tiergarten (both of which formerly belonged to West Berlin). It encompasses an area of 39.47 km² and has, as of 2003, about 320,700 inhabitants. Its current mayor is Joachim Zeller (CDU).
