The title Baron St John of Bletso was created in the Peerage of England in 1582 for Oliver St John. The fourth baron, also named Oliver, was created Earl of Bolingbroke. In 1711, the third Earl died leaving no heirs to the earldom, which became extinct. The barony, meanwhile, passed to Paulet St Andrew St John.
