|
Bangor-on-Dee (a.k.a Bangor Is-Coed, Bangor-Is-y-Coed or Bangor-is-y-Coed from Welsh) is a village in Maelor in the county borough of Wrexham in North Wales, United Kingdom.
The village is close to the English border.
South-west of the village there is a National Hunt racecourse of the same name.
Etymology
Although, in English, the anglicised form, which refers to the village's proximity to the River Dee, is most common; the traditional Welsh name may also be used.
The name, Bangor-is-y-Coed, literally means 'Bangor (i.e.: a settlement within a wattle fence) below the wood/trees'.
