BBC Radio Cumbria is the BBC Local Radio service for the English county of Cumbria. It broadcasts from its studios in Carlisle on 95.2 (Kendal), 95.6 (Sandale), 96.1 (Morecambe Bay), 104.1 (Whitehaven), 104.2 (Windermere) FM and 756 (Carlisle), 837 (Barrow-in-Furness), 1458 (Whitehaven) AM.
The most powerful transmitter is on 95.6FM from the Sandale 450ft transmitter sited at 1150 ft, near Wigton on the Caldbeck Fells, roughly 12 miles from the M6. From Penrith to Carlisle, you will get a very clear signal on the M6. Sandale is the main national radio transmitter for the Lake District. 96.1FM from Morecambe Bay also covers a large area, and the transmitter provides national radio frequencies for southern Lakeland and The Bay on 96.9FM.
Until recently, evening programmes had been shared with the BBC local radio stations in the north east, Radio Newcastle and Radio Cleveland. But the station is now on-air between 5am and 1am every day.
