BBC Radio Newcastle is the BBC Local Radio service English metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear. It broadcasts from its studios (known as the 'Pink Palace') on Barrack Road in Newcastle upon Tyne on 95.4 (Pontop Pike), 96 (Chatton, 5 miles south of Belford close to the A1), 103.7 (Newton, 3 miles east of Corbridge close to the A69), 104.4 (Fenham, West Newcastle) FM, 1458 (Wrekenton, near Newcastle) MW, DAB and though internet broadcast using Real Player.
The Pontop Pike transmitter broadcasts the strongest signal on 95.4FM. This transmitter, one of the first in the country, provides Tyneside with national radio frequencies and terrestial television. The 96FM frequency from Chatton covers most of the populated areas of East Northumberland and the transmitter has national radio frequencies and television channels. The other two FM transmitters are much weaker. The Fenham transmitter, for West Newcastle and Gateshead situated close to the studios on Barrack Road, also broadcasts 100-102 Century FM on 96.2FM, Metro Radio on 103FM and Galaxy 105-106 on 105.6FM.
