Ashford is a census-designated place located in Pierce County, Washington. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 267. Laying just a few miles from the entrance to Mount Rainier National Park, shops and accommodations for visitors to the park can be found here. The surrounding mountains and narrow Nisqually River Valley are heavily forested.
Geography
Ashford is located at 46°45'21" North, 122°1'9" West (46.755884, -122.019203)Template:GR.According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.4 km² (2.1 mi²). 5.4 km² (2.1 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 267 people, 122 households, and 56 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 49.6/km² (128.3/mi²). There are 193 housing units at an average density of 35.8/km² (92.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 93.63% White, 0.37% African American, 0.75% Native American, 0.75% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.87% from other races, and 2.62% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 122 households out of which 27.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.7% are married couples living together, 7.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 53.3% are non-families. 38.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.19 and the average family size is 3.09.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 23.2% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 31.1% from 25 to 44, 28.1% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 124.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 107.1 males.
