Archway tube station
|
Archway tube station is a London Underground station in north London, near Archway Tower at the intersection of Holloway Road and Junction Road.
The station is on the High Barnet branch of the Northern Line, between Highgate and Tufnell Park stations. It is on the boundary between Travelcard Zone 2 and Zone 3 (for ticketing purposes it is considered to be in whichever zone gives the lowest journey price).
Originally named Highgate, the station opened in 1907 as one of the northern terminals of what was then the Charing Cross, Euston and Hampstead Railway. In 1939, the line was extended to East Finchley station and the station was renamed Archway, with the Highgate name being assigned to the new tube stop at the LNER overground station of the same name.
