Antipolo City

Antipolo City is a 1st class city in the province of Rizal, Philippines. It was recently made the capital city of Rizal (Pasig City in Metro Manila was the previous capital). According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 470,866 people in 97,415 households.

Most of Antipolo stands on the eastern slopes of the Sierra Madre mountain range, giving the city a view of Metro Manila. Antipolo has numerous spring resorts popular with weekend travellers from the metropolis. Today, Antipolo City is often visited for the Nuestra Senora Dela Paz y Buenviaje, a black-imaged Virgin came from Acapulco, Mexico used for the Galleon Trade.
Antipolo got its name from the Tipolo Tree.
