Adams is a village located in the Town of Adams in Jefferson County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,624. The village is named after President John Adams.
The Village of Adams is located in the south part of the town.

History
The village was first settled around 1800 and was called Smith's Mills. The village was incorporated in the year 1851.
Geography
Adams is located at 43°48'32" North, 76°1'25" West (43.809088, -76.02385)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 4.0 km² (1.5 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.
The village is adjacent to Interstate 81 and is located on US Route 11. Sandy Creek is a stream the flows past the village on its south border.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,624 people, 705 households, and 425 families residing in the village. The population density is 407.2/km² (1,054.0/mi²). There are 781 housing units at an average density of 195.8/km² (506.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 97.91% White, 0.74% Black or African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.18% from other races, and 0.80% from two or more races. 1.11% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 705 households out of which 29.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.4% are married couples living together, 11.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.6% are non-families. 33.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.30 and the average family size is 2.96.
In the village the population is spread out with 26.1% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 16.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 88.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.1 males.
The median income for a household in the village is $30,677, and the median income for a family is $41,667. Males have a median income of $31,058 versus $25,724 for females. The per capita income for the village is $18,452. 15.3% of the population and 12.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 22.6% of those under the age of 18 and 12.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
