Abitibi-Consolidated Template:Nyse Template:Tsx is an Canadian pulp and paper company based in Montreal, Quebec. The company has interests in 27 paper mills and in 22 sawmills. It has approximately 17,000 employees.
Abitibi-Consolidated was formed from the merger between Abitibi-Price and Stone-Consolidated on May 29th, 1997. In 2000, Abitibi-Consolidated acquired a majority shareholding in Canadian integrated forest products company Donohue Inc.
It is a global leader in newsprint and uncoated groundwood (value-added groundwood) papers as well as a major producer of wood products, generating sales of $5.4 billion in 2003. With over 15,000 employees, excluding PanAsia, the Company does business in approximately 70 countries. The Company is also the world's largest recycler of newspapers and magazines, serving 16 metropolitan areas with more than 12,300 Paper Retriever® collection points and 14 recycling centres in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.
