A 610-Modular phone cord adaptor
When speaking of telephones, 610 refers to the standard type of two-wire wall socket and plug used for telephones in Australia.
The 610 connector is unique to Australia and is primarily used in wall sockets. The plug consists of three thin prongs and one thicker nonconnected prong with a matching socket connector. Newer plugs consist of only the two outermost prongs with the thicker unconnected prong.
610 connectors are being phased out in Australia in favour of the RJ-11 connector. Often new telephones are sold with an RJ-11 cable and an RJ-11/610 adapter to fit the older wall socket. In locations where telephone and computer data access points are shared with a common patch panel, an RJ-45 wall socket is used with a RJ-11/RJ-45 adapter.
