Warren County is a county located in the state of New Jersey. As of 2000, the population is 102,437. Its county seat is Belvidere6.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 940 km² (363 mi²). 927 km² (358 mi²) of it is land and 13 km² (5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.35% water.

Much of Warren County is rugged and mountainous, with the Kittatinny Ridge providing a hard backbone to the county in the west and many lower ridges winding their way through the county, with narrow valleys in between. The highest elevation is on the Kittatiny Ridge, at two areas near Upper Yards Creek Reservoir near Blairstown that slightly exceed 1,600 feet (487.6 m) above sea level; the lowest point is the confluence of the Delaware and Musconetcong rivers at the county's southern tip, at 160 feet (48.7 m) of elevation.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 102,437 people, 38,660 households, and 27,487 families residing in the county. The population density is 111/km² (286/mi²). There are 41,157 housing units at an average density of 44/km² (115/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 94.54% White, 1.87% Black or African American, 0.11% Native American, 1.21% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.01% from other races, and 1.24% from two or more races. 3.66% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 38,660 households out of which 34.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.20% are married couples living together, 9.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.90% are non-families. 24.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.12.

In the county the population is spread out with 26.10% under the age of 18, 6.30% from 18 to 24, 31.30% from 25 to 44, 23.50% from 45 to 64, and 12.90% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 94.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.10 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $56,100, and the median income for a family is $66,223. Males have a median income of $47,331 versus $31,790 for females. The per capita income for the county is $25,728. 5.40% of the population and 3.60% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 5.90% of those under the age of 18 and 6.70% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
