revert of Christianity page
Hey Technopilgrim, Welcome to the Wikipedia! Glad to have you here. I see that changed an article on Christianity. Your changes are welcome, but please note that some articles are more controversial than others. Please join us on the Talk page for that article (and others) (click on the "Discuss this page" link) as we discuss how to keep an emotionaly charged topic both accurate and NPOV. - David -- thanks for your welcome -- actually if you check someone's user contribution link you can see how long they've been on wikipedia and what their contributions have been -- that's how I know you're a relative newbie and have only posted on two topics so far. What's on your mind? I don't think you object to my edit (a revert of two sentences of confused anonymous junk). If I read your request literally you're asking me to come join y'all on the Talk:Christianity page -- OK, see you over there!
Buddhism topics
Vajrayana
OK about the move to Tibetan Buddhist Canon - although you don't seem to be aware of discussions re the whole category of Buddhist texts and use of Tripitika and Tipitika, and Pali Canon. Could you make sure that your article is cross linked appropriately. Thanks. Also you left virtually nothing under the heading of Tibetan Vajrayana which is kind of a glaring omission. It's not something I feel qualified to write about, perhaps you could say a word or two more about it? Thanks. mahābāla 12:39, 8 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Here's what I'm trying to do. Vajrayana and Tibetan Buddhism are often taken to be synonomous terms (along with Esoteric and Tantric Buddhism), but this is not correct because Vajrayana also includes the important Shingon school in Japan (I see you are actually the one who brought forth Shingon into the Wikipedia world). The problem was that lots of lower level details on Tibetan Buddhism (such as the contents of Tibetan Buddhist canon) were on the Vajrayana page, not on the Tibetan Buddhism page. So I fixed that & also added other info to the Tibetan page so now it is a healthy article in its own right. I'm trying to get the detailed information in the right location.
- I must admit I don't know much at all about Buddhist canons so I may be a bull in a china shop as I create a new page of that type. The content of the new Tibetan Buddhism canon page is just a cut/paste from the from the Tibetan section of the Vajr. page. I'll go cross-link it to the Pali canon page because I think that's what you are suggesting needs improvement -- if not, please undo my work & set it straight as it should be.
- I will also post a note on the Vajrayana page suggesting what I recommend we do next with the Vajrayana page (basically pare back the Shingon section in corresponding fashion so the article is not lopsided). We can carry on this discussion in that forum... technopilgrim 17:38, 8 Mar 2004 (UTC)
List of sutras
Hey, thanks for getting the "list of sutras" page started; I've been thinking we need something like that. However, I'm not sure it's a good idea to lump Hindu and Buddhist sutras together on one page. I was thinking of having a separate "Buddhist sutras and texts" page. That way, we could have a brief discussion of the different types of sutras, etc., followed by a list that could include not just sutras but links to any articles on vinaya, abhidhamma, shastras, tantras, the Blue Cliff Record, Shobogenzo, early Mahayana treatises, etc., etc., etc. NYK 11:13, 9 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Hmmm, after thinking about it here's what I would suggest. Why don't you create a Buddhist sacred texts page which doesn't focus on listing all the texts itself but rather talks about the types of texts, their inter-relationship, and how they are used in practice, recoginizing the varying practice by school perhaps. This would be a fascinating article if you can write it (it's beyond my knowledge, I'm not an adherent). The List of sutras page is nice on its own as it shows the span of sutras in one place. Maybe I confused the issue by adding a few comments by each sutra suggesting how it relates to others. It's nice to be able to see from horizon to horizon sometimes and the list-type pages do that. Let me copy your and my comment over to the List of sutras page in case anyone else wants to join in. technopilgrim 16:10, 9 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Greetings Technopilgrim,
Thanks for the email. You are correct, this is a subject which interests me, but my time has been taken with other projects recently. I will look in when I have some more time to devote to a proper consideration of the task...

Shingon
Good work on the Shingon article. Just wanted to let you know that I am currently working on a much more comprehensive article for this: it should pan out at about 5000 words on Shingon generally. I have about 10k words on Kukai's writings but have only covered the early years so far - ie up to "The Difference between Esoteric and Exoteric Buddhism". I am planning as complete a survey as is possible without knowing any Japanese beyond 'konichiwa'. However the actual doctrinal texts like "Attaining Enlightenment in this Body" require a more general knowledge of Shingon, which I am in the process of acquiring, and the notes on which will become a greatly expanded Shingon article sometime in the next 2 or 3 weeks I hope. I am basically summarising two maiun works: Hakeda's "Kukai : major works", and the inroductory sections of Snodgrass's "The Diamond and Matrix Mandalas". BTW Perfection is a very Buddhist virtue - keep up the good work. mahābāla 13:56, 23 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for letting me know the Shingon page will be undergoing a major overhaul in the next few weeks. I look forward to seeing the results. BTW, I'm enjoying the Buddhist texts page that you launched — I was initially concerned it was too ambitious but it seems to be working out well... technopilgrim 18:48, 24 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Mongolian topics
Hello. For the Mongolian lama, I replid at Talk:Jetsun Damba.
Don't drop umlauts in Mongolian words. English Wikipedia can properly treat umlauts and they are important in determining whether a word is masculine or feminine. --Nanshu 01:53, 16 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Shannon-Hartley theorem
I've combined all these articles into one, as you did for a few, but I'm having trouble figuring out exactly how the concepts are related. Can you help? Check out the article and talk page. - Omegatron 20:05, Sep 18, 2004 (UTC)
