Spanish language
I see that you've just added the following list of tenses to the Spanish language page:
- presente (present)
- pretérito imperfecto (past progressive)
- pretérito indefinido(simple past, sometimes present perfect)
- pretérito perfecto (present perfect)
- pretérito anterior (past perfect)
- pretérito pluscuamperfecto (past perfect)
- futuro (future)
Could you flesh that out by providing examples of what tenses we're talking about? Something like:
- presente (present): "hablo"
- etc
This system of names for the tenses is unfamiliar to me, and examples would be a great help.

Feel free to take Borges's segundo apellido back out. I noticed that it was there on the Spanish-language page, and (as a non-native) was inclined to assume that whoever wrote that would be more correct than me on this. List of Atheists
Pablo, I've been wanting to somehow take charge of the List of Atheists page for a little while now. I think it's such a terrible page which could be improved into something useful. Are you willing to help me out with this one? There hasn't been much discussion on the Talk page lately, but I'd like to get something going. --Comics 19:08, 14 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- I was thinking of cleaning the whole thing up myself but didn't want to go in so abruptly. Wait for me until Monday, so I can get a decent Internet connection and spare time, and I'll see if I can get at least a coherent intro.

Rioplatense Spanish
I've written a Rioplatense Spanish article inspired in you :). Feel free to add/modify whatever you think it's apropriate, but the article needs phonology badly (i'm not a linguist). I also noticed that I missed the le/lo explanation, I leave it to you ;P --SpiceMan 16:19, 27 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Now that's an article somebody should have written before! Thanks a lot. I'm checking it now. Besides the phonology part, I have some qualms about including all those "influences", which may be appropriate for the whole of Argentine Spanish. I'll do some research on that. For now I'll see what I can add to the article. Note however: mate and che definitely belong in Rioplatense, but cóndor does not -- obviously not many condors over here; I've seen them only in zoos. And gurí I wouldn't include in Rioplatense; it's completely absent from the speech of people in the three main cities. You hear gurí 200 km north (or more) from Rosario, with a different accent and all (already turning into the kind of Spanish spoken near Paraguay and southern Brazil). --Pablo D. tagging articles
Please put templates like {{expansion}} that only are useful to editors, on talk pages (the only exception I can think of would be the different stub templates). This is to Avoid self references as much as possible and make our content more useful to third party users. Thank you. :) --mav 08:50, 10 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- The Avoid self references page states:
- "... an article which is still in its initial development or under dispute often will include tags such as {{stub}}, {{npov}}, and {{expansion}} to help editors further develop the article, and the text in these templates include self-references. Try, however, to limit such self-references, even in templates."
- So a limited use of expansion tags is allowed in practice. You're not the first to point this out to me; I've taken a previous post and moved it below this one. It seems that Wikipedia:Template messages disagrees with the above, since it clearly states that expansion tags et al belong in the article namespace.
- The asiduous editor, who looks in the special pages for articles to work on, may have no problem with expansion tags placed in the Talk pages; but the occasional editor who surfs by will miss them. An expansion request is psychologically powerful -- it motivates readers to become editors. Is there a place where one can discuss this?

Expansion template
Everything in the article namespace has to be for readers not editors. A call to expand a page is clearly information for editors and belongs on the talk page. See Wikipedia:Template messages. - SimonP 17:18, Dec 31, 2004 (UTC)

- The table says clearly that expansion requests belong in the article namespace (it's placed along disambiguation, which you'll agree, I'm sure, definitely belongs in the article and not the talk page). An expansion request is for editors, OK, but such a request should also be visible to the reader since it's a warning "that content is sub-standard" as it says in Wikipedia:Template messages. - I don't have a digital camera, but more importantly, I don't live in Buenos Aires. Regrettably I also don't have a friend there. But I think you can get some images through the image search engine in Google (for example, try this (http://images.google.com/images?q=%22buenos%20aires%22%20subterr%C3%A1neo&hl=en&lr=&sa=N&tab=wi)). --Pablo D. Moving articles
Hi - I think you may have been renaming some articles by deleting the text and reinserting it in a new page. Please note that this is not the recommended way to rename a page: you should use the "Move" tab, which will ensure that the history and discussion moves with the text.

- Thanks. The movings have been mostly redirections, in order to keep a consistent titling of the phonology pages. It makes no sense to have Spanish phonology, Russian phonetics, and Danish pronunciation when they all refer to the same topic. - I would too. Introducing a so-called "creaming curve" and "wildcats" without explanation or links seems very strange and suspicious to me. Dummy pronouns
Thank you for your thoughtful reply to my suggestion about dummy/expletive/pleonastic pronouns -- very much the kind of reply I was hoping for. I intend to reply, with some agreement and some disagreement; but this is going to take a bit longer than I'd expected, because so-called real life is unfortunately interrupting my work on WP. Christianese
Howdy,
For what it's worth, I think your recent efforts on this page should not have had the "minor" tag on them (black "m" in the edit history). They were pretty extensive. You probably just accidentally had the "This is a minor edit" box checked from another edit, but you should watch out for that. Some editors will get really upset if serious edits are labeled "minor". (Not me, by the way.)
You made a valiant effort to "un-Christianese" the definitions altered by the anonymous editor, but I think they could still use a little work. Not right now for me, though, it's too late at night. My general feeling on this page is we should assume near-total ignorance of Christianity by the reader and keep the definitions as plain and simple as possible. - Thank you. I probably started out thinking of something minor, and then went on and on and saved the whole thing like that. I really thought those "expanded" definitions were a bit too verbose. List of Spanish verbs article
Hola, Pablo Flores. I decided to put the "LL" section with all the unders with the "L" because I had been informed that the RAE had rid the usage of double letters since 1994. If not, I'll gladly change it back...but I think it is alright.

Hi, Pablo,
It's really hard to keep your temper in some of these discussions. I learned something during a national debate on the Clinton impeachment (in the forum on that subject on NPR) -- that I'm really trying to communicate with the people who are on the sidelines, not to the person that just called me a whole series of bad names and is clearly out to find something to use to put me down. I fortunately learned never to respond in kind, just bring the discussion back to the facts. There are a few people on Wikipedia that I really admire and know to be reliable help in dealing with bullies. I'll have a look at the chakra article. Maybe I can get Mav or somebody like that to drop in and dispense some tranquilizer. P0M 17:39, 20 May 2005 (UTC)

Protest-stub
Hi - there isn't one currently (a special stub type, that is). The procedure for making a new one is to go to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Stub sorting/Criteria and propose a new stub type at the end of the current month's list of proposals (be warned, it's a fairly big page). There's generally about a week allowed for suggestions, counter-proposals, and the like, and if there aren't any objections by the end of the week then you can either make the template yourself (following the "how to" procedures on Wikipedia:Stub) or just wait for one of the regular stub-sorters to do i for you. By the way, since one of the usual criteria is having a lot of stubs it might be worth either looking for more stubs that can use the template or expanding the scope of the stub (say to include things like strikes and lockouts). Re: Category tags
Hi Pablo,
I think the pipe character does work in categories (at least they work in Internet Explorer and Netscape; I don't think it depends on browser). My aim was to avoid that every list appears at the letter L in the list of lists, because that was what happened when we didn't use the pipe character.

Hi, I still do not understand your request for Alensha. If you look at this page Category:Lists (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:Lists&from=Latin+phrases), you can see that the article List of English irregular verbs appears under letter L, although E could be much more reasonable. Apparently, most other articles are placed under the initial letter of the first relevant word of the title (i.e., the one following the words "List of"), e.g. List of oil fields is placed here under letter O, not the letter L, etc. etc. etc. Would you please tell me why you oppose piping? Hola Pablo, mejorar los artículos de la Argentina fue mi objetivo desde que me suscribí, pero voy haciendo de a poco, ya que la mayor parte del trabajo lo vuelco en la wikipedia en castellano. Clitic doubling - Bulgarian
There is clitic doubling but it is mostly emphatic. You could say: Аз го дадох подаръка на майка ми - I gave it the present to my mother. Or: Аз й го дадох подаръка на майка ми - I gave her it the present to my mother. In the first case, one accentuates the present, in the second one - the mother.
If one speaks formally, the sentence will, however, have to be: I gave the present to my mother. It is rather colloquial and that's why it is not treated extensively in grammars. VMORO 23:11, Jun 21, 2005 (UTC)
