Zelenogorsk (suburb of Saint Petersburg)

Zelenogorsk is a suburb of Saint Petersburg, located in part of the Karelian Isthmus on the shore of the Gulf of Finland. It is about 50 kilometers northwest of central Saint Petersburg.
The town was won from Finland in the Moscow Peace Treaty (1940). Before that, it had belonged to Russia 1721–1812. Its name in Finnish is Terijoki.
Formally, Zelenogorsk is an integral part of the Saint Petersburg recreation area. It has been known as a summer resort for wealthy Petersburgers since 1870, when the railway between Vyborg and Petersburg was built. At the turn of the century, the town's population was estimated to have been a few thousand, rising to above 50,000 during the summers.
