Yourself or Someone Like You (1996) | Mad Season (2000) |
Yourself or Someone Like You, the debut record album by Matchbox 20, contained five U.S. hit singles and sold over 12 millon copies in the U.S. alone. It also went multi-platinum in Canada and Australia. The band's rock-based sound appealed to many listeners, despite an extremely depressing theme with songs on topics such as loneliness, domestic violence, humiliation, anger, and drunkeness. The band's next album, Mad Season, was a step down in overall quality, which was reflected on the charts. More Than You Think You Are, generally considered to be a much better album overall, also failed to sell even a third as many copies as the debut.
