Youngstown is a village located in Niagara County, New York, USA. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,957.

The Village of Youngstown was incorporated in 1854. Youngstown is on the western edge of the Town of Porter and is at the international border with Canada. The village's early growth was under the protection of Fort Niagara.

The Youngstown Levels, one of the largest amateurs sailing regattas is held here annually.

Geography

Youngstown is located at 43°14'56" North, 79°2'33" West (43.248754, -79.042521)Template:GR.

The village is on the east bank of the Niagara River and is north of Niagara Falls. Youngstown is west of the Robert Moses Parkway and at the western end of the Youngstown-Lockport Road (Route 93). The village is across the Niagara River from the region called Niagara-on-the-Lake in Canada and the community of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.6 km² (1.4 mi²). 3.0 km² (1.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 17.14% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,957 people, 809 households, and 564 families residing in the village. The population density is 651.4/km² (1,687.5/mi²). There are 863 housing units at an average density of 287.2/km² (744.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.42% White, 0.00% African American, 1.07% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.05% from other races, and 0.46% from two or more races. 0.77% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 809 households out of which 30.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.9% are married couples living together, 9.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.2% are non-families. 25.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 2.93.

In the village the population is spread out with 24.3% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 27.3% from 45 to 64, and 16.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 91.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.0 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $48,333, and the median income for a family is $60,089. Males have a median income of $47,063 versus $23,333 for females. The per capita income for the village is $23,705. 3.9% of the population and 3.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.0% of those under the age of 18 and 4.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
