Yorvit Torrealba [yor-VEET tor-ray-AHL-bah] (born April 19, 1978 in Caracas, Venezuela) is a Major League Baseball catcher and right-handed batter who plays for the San Francisco Giants. He was signed by the Giants as an amateur free agent in 1994 and made his debut in the 2001 season.
Torrealba has shown some potential, but when Benito Santiago left via free agency in 2003, the Giants opted to trade for A.J. Pierzynski rather than test the 26-year-old as a full-time player. He will likely continue in his role as the primary backup catcher as the Giants signed Mike Matheny prior to the 2005 season.
In four-season career, Torrealba is a .256 hitter with 12 home runs and 68 RBI in 186 games. As a catcher, he has compiled a .995 fielding average with only five errors in 1065 chances.
