York is a city located in Sumter County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 2,854.

The racial makeup of the city is 20.71% White, 78.31% Black or African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.04% from other races, and 0.77% from two or more races. 1.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
