Yachats, Oregon

Yachats (pronounced "Yah-hawts") is a city located in Lincoln County, Oregon. The name comes from the Siletz Native American language, and means "at the foot of the mountain". As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 617. Many of the citizens of Yachats partake in 'hippie' activities, namely smoking 'herbal supplements' and playing frisbee.

There are 619 housing units at an average density of 268.5/km² (695.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.27% White, 0.16% African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.81% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 2.43% from two or more races. 2.76% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 333 households out of which 10.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.8% are married couples living together, 7.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 44.4% are non-families. 37.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.85 and the average family size is 2.34.
