Witches 5
|
The Witches 5 are fictional antagonists in the anime series Sailor Moon S. The group is a subset of the Death Busters lead by Professor Souichi Tomoe. The members of the group are Eudial, Mimete, Tellu, Viluy, Cyprine, and Ptilol. Some alternate spellings are sometimes used although these are the most likely. Like many Sailor Moon villains, each name is based on the name of a mineral or gemstone. Attacks by the Witches 5 are elemental and the attack names are suffixed with the word "Buster".

Eudial
Eudial is the first and possibly the leader of the Witches 5. Eudialyte is her namesake. Seiyuu Maria Kawamura provides her voice for the original Japanese production. Canadian actress Loretta Jafelice does her voice for the English adaptation. Nancy McKenzie plays her in the Spanish version.
Eudial seems to be the oldest of the group, and is much resented by the others—particularly Mimete—because Professor Tomoe seems to favor her. She uses her computer to track down potential Talisman holders, and takes bio-engineered monsters (Daimon) with her to remove said Talismans from their owners.
Eudial is generally fairly even-tempered and level-headed, though her driving is absolutely insane. She carries a deadly shoulder-mounted flamethrower, the Fire Buster, and later in the series, she booby-traps the under-construction Marine Cathedral. She actually does succeed in getting two of the Talismans, but loses them to Sailor Pluto in a decidedly deus ex machina sequence. Furious, she escapes in her car, driving madly as always, only to find that someone (Mimete) has literally torn the brakes out of it. The car crashes over the highway into the sea far below, causing Eudial's death.
Mimete
Mimete is the second of the group. She is named after the mineral mimetite. Voice work for the character is provided by seiyuu Mika Kanai in the Japanese. Susan Aceron plays the character in English[1] (http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/ShowMainServlet/showid-3444/Sailor_Moon/), Pilar Escandon in Spanish and Melanie Jung in German.
After Eudial's untimely death and loss of the talismans, Mimete was assigned to collect heart crystals (which will be used to power-up a portal for the arrival of Pharaoh 90). Using daimons and her attack Charm Buster (a staff which emits headache-causing beams), Mimete is a bit of a ditz and usually went after celebrities. Mimete made multiple attempts to collect heart crystals from humans--all of which were foiled by Sailor Senshi.
Her death came when she used one of Eudial's unused inventions to increase her size and power, not knowing that it would also make her particularly vulnerable. Just as she was about to attack using her newly buffed powers, someone pulled the plug on the machine, causing Mimete to fall into a void, killing her.
Tellu
The third member of the Witches 5, she is named for the mineral tellurite. Tellu is voiced by Chieko Honda in Japanese, Kirsten Bishop in English (Telulu), Norma Echeverria in Spanish, and Donatella Fanfani in Italian.
After Tellu got Mimete out of the way, she was assigned the task of gathering heart crystals, which she does so by opening a flower shop and giving away beautiful plants that would later wrestle heart crystals out of their owners. Tellu would then capture these crystals in a magical container.
The sailor senshi eventually confronted her, after which she unleashed a beefed up version of her destructive plant. In midst of the brawl, her container burst open, surrounding Tellu with heart crystals, which caused her own horrid botanical creations to turn against her and kill her.
Before her official debut, she was the shadow who killed Mimete. Revenge, since Mimete wanted to prove to the Professor she was the best witch.
Viluy
The 4th member of the Witches 5 and a notorious flirt with the professor (enraging Kaolinite in the process), she is named for the mineral viluite. Viluy was handed the task of gathering heart crystals after Tellu's demise. Towards this goal, she has programmed all the computers at a middle school academy such that all users of the computers will have their heart crystals extracted from them. Additionally she possessed the "mosaic buster" attack which releases a flurry of nano-robots from her wristband that will dissolve its victim, leaving the heart crystal behind.
She was getting the upper hand in finishing her task and defeating the Sailor Senshi when, in another deus ex machina sequence, her wristband suddenly malfunctioned--resulting in the nanomachines dissolving their own master.
Cyprine
Cyprine are voiced by Yuriko Fuchizaki in Japanese and Beate Pfeiffer in German.
The last of the Witches 5 (and again, charged with the task of gathering heart crystals and fending off the Sailor Senshi), it was only when confronted that she reveals her twin sister, Ptilol (In the English dub, Cyprin declares she and Ptilol are one mind in two bodies, rather than twins). The two proved nearly invincible to the sailor senshi, for one always block incoming attacks with her powers while the other blasts from behind. It was only through a well-coordinated effort that the sailor senshi were able to trick the two into blasting each other, killing both at the same time. (Sailor Mercury threw out her shabon spray, and the others separated the two in the fog).
Cyprine is named for the mineral cyprine and Ptilol is named for ptilolite.
