Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
|
Windows 2000 Datacenter Server is a version of Windows 2000 that is designed for large businesses that move large quantites of confidential or sensitive data frequently via a central server. As with Advanced Server, it supports clustering, failover and load balancing. Its system requirements are normal, but are compatible with vast amounts of power. According to Microsoft, it was designed to pass the "five nines" test, "meaning that a server is running 99.999 percent of the time. (Which translates into just under 6 minutes of downtime over a year.)" Template:Ref Both Windows 2000 Advanced Server and Datacenter Server provide integrated clustering services and technologies to deliver higher levels of service and availability.
Microsoft restricted the sale of Datacenter Server to qualified Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), who sell the Windows 2000 Datacenter Server operating system preinstalled on their hardware.
