According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.0 km² (3.5 mi²). 9.0 km² (3.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.86% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 6,806 people, 2,545 households, and 1,738 families residing in the city. The population density is 757.3/km² (1,963.0/mi²). There are 2,715 housing units at an average density of 302.1/km² (783.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 90.32% White, 1.54% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.31% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 6.11% from other races, and 1.51% from two or more races. 12.47% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,545 households out of which 38.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.1% are married couples living together, 14.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% are non-families. 27.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.63 and the average family size is 3.22.
In the city the population is spread out with 30.8% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 90.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.7 males.

Fun Facts
Original name of Willard was Chicago Junction. Chicago Junction was being confused by train passengers on the B&O railroad as Chicago, Illinois. So in the 1910's the town of Chicago Junction changed their name to Willard, named after the president of the B&O, Daniel Willard. Willard is known as the City of Blossoms.
