Wildhearts

The Wildhearts are a rock group from Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. The lead singer, Ginger (real name David Walls), is also lead guitarist and predominant song writer. The Wildhearts broke through in the early nineties and in true rock style have been quite controversial while maintaining a popular following. Despite many of their singles being refused air play on the radio in their early days they still managed to enter the British charts in the top 20. The band has had many "in camp" problems to deal with and as a result band members have left and returned. For a long while in the mid-nineties they were on the point of splitting all together and eventually did in 1998. The band members have all been in other bands and projects, including The Quireboys, Honeycrack, Silver Ginger 5, Clam Abuse, and Supershit 666. Between 1998 and 2004 The Wildhearts were recording and touring again. The 2004 line up was Ginger - vocals and guitar, C.J. (Chris Jaghdar) - guitar and vocals, Stidi (Richard Stidolph) - drums and Jon "Random" Poole on Bass, having replaced Danny McCormack in 2003. Past members, some temporary, include Rich Battersby, Jef Streatfield and Devin Townsend. In 2005, Ginger dissolved The Wildhearts and briefly joined The Brides of Destruction (featuring Tracii Guns on guitar) before setting out on his own as a full-time solo artist. Expect a new Ginger solo release later in the year.
