West Union is a village located in Adams County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2,903. It is the county seat of Adams CountyTemplate:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 6.7 km² (2.6 mi²). 6.7 km² (2.6 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,903 people, 1,242 households, and 757 families residing in the village. The population density is 436.1/km² (1,130.4/mi²). There are 1,373 housing units at an average density of 206.3/km² (534.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.11% White, 0.24% African American, 0.72% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.10% from other races, and 0.65% from two or more races. 0.45% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,242 households out of which 28.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.7% are married couples living together, 16.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.0% are non-families. 35.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.20 and the average family size is 2.81.
In the village the population is spread out with 22.0% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 22.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 76.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 72.7 males.
The median income for a household in the village is $20,566, and the median income for a family is $25,531. Males have a median income of $25,104 versus $19,107 for females. The per capita income for the village is $13,301. 21.8% of the population and 15.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 22.0% of those under the age of 18 and 12.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
History
West Union started as an Amish settlement. There are still many Amish communities in the area.
Nearby Seaman, Ohio is the birthplace of the sport of crockey. The first crockey championship was held in 1997 in West Union.
West Union is a "dry town." No sales of alcoholic beverages are permitted, though they are available at nearby Manchester, Ohio, as well as other towns in and around Adams County.
