Webbers Falls is a town located in Muskogee County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 726.

The I-40 Bridge Disaster

On May 26, 2002, a barge collided with a bridge support near Webbers Falls, causing a 580 foot section of the I-40 bridge to plunge into the Arkansas river. Automobiles and semi-trucks fell into the water killing 14 people, including a three-year-old girl.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 10.1 km² (3.9 mi²). 10.1 km² (3.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.26% is water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 726 people, 288 households, and 209 families residing in the town. The population density is 72.1/km² (186.6/mi²). There are 364 housing units at an average density of 36.1/km² (93.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 69.56% White, 0.28% African American, 24.79% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.38% from other races, and 3.99% from two or more races. 2.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 288 households out of which 33.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.5% are married couples living together, 15.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.4% are non-families. 24.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 2.89.

In the town the population is spread out with 28.2% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 24.5% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 16.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 86.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.1 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $19,300, and the median income for a family is $22,955. Males have a median income of $22,813 versus $17,031 for females. The per capita income for the town is $10,684. 26.2% of the population and 22.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 40.9% of those under the age of 18 and 14.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
