Waterford Institute of Technology

Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) situated on the western outskirts of Waterford, Ireland was established in 1970 as Regional Technical College, Waterford with an initial intake of just 200 students. The institute has a full time student population of just under 6,000 and part time enrolments of 8,000; fifty percent of the students study at bachelors degree level or higher. The curriculum spans the humanities, science and technology, education and business.
The institute currently provides programmes at National Certificate and National Diploma level and well as Bachelor, Master and Doctorate degree level. Today, the institute has its own awarding powers at teaching level at degree and subdegree level. There are currently a growing number of calls for the institute to be "upgraded" to university level.
