Wartortle (Kameil (カメール Kamēru*) in Japanese) is a Stage 1 water-type Pokémon that evolves from Squirtle at level 16 and further evolves into Blastoise at level 36. Wartortle is more aggressive than its basic form, Squirtle; it hides in water to stalk unwary prey, and uses its furry ears and tail to steer while swimming. Wartortle, and in particular its tail, is also a symbol of longevity; old Wartortles can be recognized by algae growing on their shells.

Name origin
Wartortle's name is probably a combination of "War," "Tortoise," and "Turtle."
Availability
In all of the Pokémon games, Wartortle can only be obtained by evolving a Squirtle. Therefore, the availability of Squirtle dictates the availability of Wartortle.
Pokédex definition
Ruby: "Its tail is large and covered with a rich, thick fur. The tail becomes increasingly deeper in color as Wartortle ages. The scratches on its shell are evidence of this Pokémon's toughness as a battler."
Anime Appearances
In the Pokémon Anime, Wartortle has appeared several times as a member of a Fire-fighting squad.
Manga Appearances
In Pokémon Adventures, Blue briefly has a Wartortle which evolved from the Squirtle she stole from Professor Oak, before it evolved into a Blastoise.
In Pokémon Getto da ze!, Shuu captures a Wartortle which has been harassing him by shooting Water Guns and other such attacks.
