Wainscott is a hamlet (and census-designated place) located in Suffolk County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 628.
Wainscott is in the Town of East Hampton.
Geography
Wainscott is located at 40°57'9" North, 72°14'43" West (40.952395, -72.245215)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 18.9 km² (7.3 mi²). 17.6 km² (6.8 mi²) of it is land and 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 6.85% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 628 people, 260 households, and 152 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 35.7/km² (92.3/mi²). There are 764 housing units at an average density of 43.4/km² (112.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 90.45% White, 4.14% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.91% from other races, and 3.18% from two or more races. 7.01% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 260 households out of which 22.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.4% are married couples living together, 10.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 41.5% are non-families. 31.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.28 and the average family size is 2.82.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 18.6% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 27.9% from 45 to 64, and 19.1% who are 65 years of age or older.
