Wainaku is a census-designated place located in Hawaii County, Hawaii. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,227.
Geography
Wainaku is located at 19°44'50" North, 155°6'3" West (19.747258, -155.100954)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.7 km² (1.4 mi²). 3.4 km² (1.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 6.38% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,227 people, 422 households, and 316 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 358.9/km² (932.9/mi²). There are 453 housing units at an average density of 132.5/km² (344.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 19.72% White, 0.16% African American, 0.41% Native American, 45.97% Asian, 6.44% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 27.06% from two or more races. 8.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 422 households out of which 27.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.1% are married couples living together, 15.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.9% are non-families. 21.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.91 and the average family size is 3.36.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 22.0% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 23.6% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 21.4% who are 65 years of age or older.
