Waimea is a census-designated place located in Hawaii County, Hawaii. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 7,028.
Geography
Waimea is located at 20°1'26" North, 155°38'50" West (20.023926, -155.647357)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 100.5 km² (38.8 mi²). 100.4 km² (38.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.15% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 7,028 people, 2,371 households, and 1,782 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 70.0/km² (181.4/mi²). There are 2,589 housing units at an average density of 25.8/km² (66.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 30.65% White, 0.33% African American, 0.17% Native American, 20.29% Asian, 15.61% Pacific Islander, 0.73% from other races, and 32.23% from two or more races. 7.80% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,371 households out of which 39.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.6% are married couples living together, 13.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.8% are non-families. 18.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.95 and the average family size is 3.36.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 29.7% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 25.0% from 45 to 64, and 10.1% who are 65 years of age or older.
