Viscount Ullswater
|
Viscount Ullswater, of Campsea Ashe in the County of Suffolk, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. The Viscountcy was created in 1921 for James Lowther upon his retirement as Speaker of the House of Commons. The family are a cadet branch of the Earls of Lonsdale (descended from a younger brother of the 3rd Earl), with the current Lord Lonsdale being Lord Ullswater's third cousin once removed. The 1st Viscount lived to the age of 93, and was pre-deceased by both his eldest son (1887-1935) and his eldest son's eldest son (1910-1942), the title being inherited by his great-grandson at the age of 7, in an extremely rare instance of a great-grandson succeeding his great-grandfather in a peerage.
