Vincent Cable

Dr Vincent Cable (born 9 May 1943) is a British Liberal Democrat politician and economist. He is Member of Parliament for Twickenham and has been the Liberal Democrats' chief spokesperson for the treasury since 2003, having previously served as Chief Economist for the oil company Shell.
Cable was born in York where he attended Nunthorpe Grammar School. He went on to study Natural Science and Economics at Fitzwilliam House, Cambridge and was elected President of the Cambridge Union in 1965.
Cable began as a member of the Labour party, and left for the SDP. He has fought parliamentary seats for Labour, the SDP, and the Liberal Democrats. He failed to unseat Conservative Toby Jessel in 1992 but won the seat of Twickenham at the 1997 General Election, and increased his majority in 2001. He is Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor.
Cable is one of the contributors of the Orange Book (2004).
