Guide (1965) directed by Vijay Anand
Vijay Anand (January 22, 1934 - February 23, 2004), also known as Goldie Anand was a Bollywood film producer, director, writer and actor. He made most of his films for the in-house banner Navketan Films.
Vijay Anand was born in Gurdaspur, Punjab and was the youngest of the Anand siblings. His brothers Chetan Anand and Dev Anand also have been producers and directors. Dev Anand has also been a very popular Bollywood actor. He served a short stint as the chairman of the censor board, a position from which he resigned after he ran into ideological differences with the government over introduction of ratings for adult movies.
Though Vijay Anand has had a career in acting and production, he will primarily be remembered as a director. Some of his successful movies as director were Johnny Mera Naam (1970), Jewel Thief (1967), Teesri Manzil (1966) (Bollywood-noir style thrillers), Tere Ghar ke Saamne (1963) (romantic comedy), Tere Mere Sapne (1971) and Guide (1965) (Dramas). Guide is Vijay Anand's most critically aclaimed movie. It is based on RK. Narayan's novel The Guide. Navketan attempted an international release of a remake of Guide without much success. While he was 20 years old Vijay Anand wrote the script for Navketan's hit movie Taxi Driver (1954). In 1957 he made his directorial debut with Nau Do Gyarah. His most memorable lead role was in Kora Kagaz (1974).
To the younger generation of the 90's he is also known for playing detective Sam in the television series Tehkikaat.
Goldie as he was affectionately called passed away on 23 February, 2004 due to a heart attack.
Dr. Vijay
For those who are relatively involved in the tech world, Vijay Anand would be a familiar name that may have crossed the path of many (and no, he is not the above-mentioned superstar). For the uninitiated, he is the Sub-Editor of the online portal HardwareZone (http://www.hardwarezone.com), where he contributes, publishes articles, and reviews, of computer components namely graphics card (http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?cid=3&id=1179) and mainboards. He has come upon to many as a person well-versed in the realm of computer components and their respective technology.
He is also better known to the HardwareZone Community (http://forums.hardwarezone.com/) as the forum administrator (http://forums.hardwarezone.com/member.php?u=405) with an iron fist, otherwise also known as Dr. Vijay - which is a handle that is quite befitting his vast wealth of knowledge.
One thing worth mentioning is the fact that although he has no formal doctorate degree (some might argue if he even has a bachelor's degree) nor is he a medical doctor, he is unashamed to use the title "Dr." when writing articles. Many people consider this shameless behavior as demeaning to real doctors.
