Venezuelan Capital District
|
The Capital District (Spanish: Distrito Capital) is the capital area of Venezuela which is placed at the same rank of states. It holds only one municipality: Libertador, and covers an area of 433 km². There is no political unit for governing the Capital District. Once the Federal District had had the government with its governor but the reform in 2000 founded the Metropolitan District of Caracas and gave it the jurisdiction over one municipality of the Capital District and four municipalities of the Miranda State. From this point on the renamed Capital District has been no entity of itself. The state borders on the states of Vargas and Miranda. As of 2000 it had a population of 1 975 787 inhabitants.
