Vakhushti Bagrationi

Vakhushti Bagrationi (1696-1757) was a great Georgian historian and geographer, as well as one of the founders of the Moscow State University.
He was born in 1696 in Tbilisi. His father was Vakhtang VI (1675-1737), King of Kartli from 1716 to 1724. After 1724, Vakhushti Bagrationi and his family lived in Moscow.
In 1755 Vakhushti Bagrationi was one of the founders of the Moscow State University.
He was the author of outstanding works: "Agtsera Sameposa Sakartveloisa" ("History of Georgia", 1745), "Sakartvelos Geograpiuli Agtsera" ("Geography of Georgia", 1750) and 2 geographical atlases of the Caucasus (1745-46). The atlases of Bagrationi were translated and published in French and Russian languages also.
Vakhushti Bagrationi died in Moscow in 1757.
