Vacaville, California is a city located in Solano County, California, between Sacramento and San Francisco. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 88,625. The city is known for its retail shopping and being the former home of the Nut Tree Restaurant. Sacramento is located 35 miles away to the east and San Francisco is located 55 miles to the southwest. Other nearby cities include Fairfield and Dixon.

Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 88,625 people, 28,105 households, and 20,966 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,263.6/km² (3,272.3/mi²). There are 28,696 housing units at an average density of 409.1/km² (1,059.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 72.11% White, 10.02% African American, 0.97% Native American, 4.18% Asian, 0.45% Pacific Islander, 6.74% from other races, and 5.53% from two or more races. 17.88% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 28,105 households out of which 41.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.0% are married couples living together, 12.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.4% are non-families. 19.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.83 and the average family size is 3.24.
In the city the population is spread out with 27.0% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 35.4% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 8.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 118.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 124.7 males.

The city was home to the Solano Steelheads of the now-defunct Western Baseball League. It is now home to the Solano Thunderbirds of the California Collegiate League(CCL).
