The Uzbek SSR or Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic was the name given to Uzbekistan on October 27 1924. It remained to called so and was a part of the Soviet Union until September 1 1991. On September 1 1991 it was renamed into Republic of Uzbekistan, formally remaining a part of the USSR until December 26 1991.
