Where angels fear to tread

I saw that you edited the Star Trek cultural references. I didn't know that it was a known expression. Do you know anything about the origin of the phrase? If it's a part of language then it probably has nothing to do with the novel I linked to. In that case it isn't a cultural reference at all and should be removed. Do you have any thoughts on this? I'll watch your talk page, so you can answer here. Foolip 18:43, 15 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Foolip: A quick Bartleby search reveals that it is in fact a quote from Alexander Pope's "An Essay on Criticism" in 1711.

See: [1] (http://www.bartleby.com/59/3/foolsrushinw.html) and [[2] (http://www.bartleby.com/66/29/44829.html)]

Also noted at Wikiquote.org [[3] (http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Alexander_Pope)]

I would say that it still qualifies as a cultural reference, but that the Forster title is, in fact, itself a cultural reference.

Do you want to edit the Star Trek cultural references page to incorporate this info? Klanda 18:59, 15 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Klanda: I feel that for something to be listed as a cultural reference it should be fairly certain that it is done intentionally. I don't think it's reasonable to assume that the writers were referencing Alexander Pope. However, since Bartleby lists the saying as a proverb that would constitute a cultural reference in itself. I will edit the article to mention the proverb instead, along with the source of the proverb. Foolip 19:18, 15 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Barack Obama

Nice catch on the intro there. That sentence was written well before Keyes got in (in fact, I believe Ryan hadn't dropped out yet). Best wishes and nice work, [[User:Meelar|Meelar (talk)]] 19:31, 2004 Aug 19 (UTC)

Thanks for the White Pass image
