Anti-Semitism in vulgar use
It occurs to me that this subject and its terminology exhibit traits of a circular political argument. Anti-semitism is a legitimate term, referring to racism of a specific kind. It is used, however, as a catch-phrase referring to any one who exhibts sentiments better classified as anti-Zionist.
My theory, in part examined below, is; that the vulgar use of anti-Semitism, is commonly used far to broadly. It's similar, I contend, to some African-American's use of the the word "racist"; as a catch-phrase that refers to sentiments that are best classified otherwise.
Terms defined
- Semitism: undefinable, presumably not racist.
- Anti Semitism: is a racist position. (aS(racist) or (aS(-)
- Zionism: (Z) is ethnic (racial ) preference as the basis for the existence of a ethnic homeland, often at the cost of other ethnic peoples; a racist position, therefore; (Z(racist) or (Z(-)
- Anti -zionism: (aZ) is opposition to Zionism, thus; (aZ(nonracist) or (Z(+)
Formulae
//Stipulating; all racism is equivalent
- (racist)=(racist) or (-) = (-)
//antiSemitism (racism) equals zionism (racism).
- (aS(-) == (Z(-)
//Antizionism is the inverse of Zionism,
- (aZ+) = inv (Z(-)
//thus; antiSemitism cannot be equal to AntiZionism.
- (aS(-) =/= (aZ(+)
Conclusion
The use of anti-Semitism to refer to Anti-zionism, as is used in vulgar speech, is illogical. (i.e contradicts standard definitions.) Add to this the fact that much of Israeli policy is identical to South African apartheid (racism), we can say that contradictions are the norm, rather than the exception. And the continued use of anti-Semitism (racism) to refer to anti-Zionist (anti-racism) opinion, is a common example of POV, polluting the discourse dealing with current events.
