I am an American man thirty-three years of age. By profession I am a machine vision engineer, and more recently a DVD producer.
I'm tweaking this profile for the first time in two years. The last time I was about to sign into Wikipedia I got up to get a drink of iced tea, then I remembered I had to mail some bills, I got distracted by other things, etc., and here we are two years later.
Machine vision is a twin to computer vision, the academic study of "making computers see." I've worked in the field for over nine years.
My interests outside of work include writing fiction, philosophy, etymology, jazz, independent comics, and billiards/pool/snooker. I also hope to one day find a pair of ideally comfortable shoes.
At the university I completed degrees in physics and German. (Falls Sie lieber deutsch sprechen . . .)
Here on Wikipedia I look to edit articles related to my interests, and I spend some time de-stubbifying stubs. Though my German is not what it once was, I plan to write occasionally on the German-language site, also under the user name "Rethunk".
