LEAVE ME A MESSAGE (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=User_talk:Minesweeper&action=edit&section=new)

NOTE: I've curtailed my editing recently (since mid-2004) for several reasons:

  • Utter burnout (12,000+ edits will do that to you)
  • Wikipedia's growth means this place isn't the same tight community it once was
  • Wikipedia's growth means there's more vandalism than ever before
  • The back-and-forth (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=George+W.+Bush&action=history&limit=100&offset=0) edit wars (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=John+Kerry&action=history&limit=100&offset=0) on all things political, especially leading up to the 2004 U.S. presidential election (see "Mudslinging Weasels Into Online History" (http://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/10/arts/10wiki.html?ex=1257742800&en=cc30e2e9087b7775&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland) in the N.Y. Times)
  • The tinfoil hat conspiracy theory mongering (i.e. making a mountain out of a molehill) and using Wikipedia as the soapbox

Having said that, the itch to contribute never quite abates, and my editing will continue on a limited basis.

Greetings! I am a lifelong resident of California and am currently attending the University of California, Berkeley, majoring in electrical engineering and computer science.

I stumbled upon and became a member of Wikipedia in January 2003 when the 'pedia made front page news (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/01/22/0258226&mode=nested&threshold=3) on Slashdot. I was swept up in the ease with which anyone could contribute to articles. While editing this encyclopedia can be frustrating at times, it is a very worthwhile endeavor that someday (hopefully in my lifetime!) will be an invaluable repository of human knowledge. While the 'pedia is still in its infancy and has a lot of maturing to do, I see every day's worth of edits like a mathematical function approaching a limit. Every day, this project gets better, but it will always have room to improve, and as time goes to infinity, this encyclopedia will approach perfection.

While EE and CS are my primary areas of study, I humbly consider myself not to be an expert in these fields, and therefore I refrain from making any drastic changes to articles pertaining to those subjects.

Some observations:
