General waffle
Um... hello; Loganberry here. (Yes, spelt as in the fruit.) Currently I am spending the great majority of my editing time on cricket-related articles, as a member of WikiProject Cricket. We could certainly do with some more members, so please consider joining us if you can!

Multilicensing

"Milestone edits"
Since lots of other people seem to enjoy doing this, I'm now going to be totally unoriginal and stick in a record of those "milestone edits". I have no idea whether the done thing with these lists is to include minor edits, changes to userpages etc, but I'm going to do so anyway since it makes the numbers look bigger. =:P Here we go, then:

Geographical articles
Please, folks, when you write an article about your favourite small town somewhere, include the country it's in and not just the state or nearby cities. You know that Idaho is in the United States; I know it is too... but some readers may not, and it's only polite to make the fact clear, as an international encyclopedia should.
Signatures
Here's something slightly controversial to wake you up: I do find it slightly irritating when people customise their signatures so that they include colours, symbols and graphics. When I was new to Wikipedia I found that confusing, and to some extent I still do. I'd like to see sigs standardised to something like Loganberry (Talk) - with Loganberry linked in the usual way, of course. After all, we all have our User pages for messing around with exciting design - or not, in my case!
Singular they
I seem to be in a bit of a minority here. Not just because I use it at all, since more and more people are now doing that, even in print, but because I think it is by far the best way to go, and should be used even in formal writing. I saw a sign on a bus a few years ago that said "Do not speak to the driver or distract their attention while the bus is moving", and I thought that was perfectly fine. Of course, it could have been rewritten as "Do not speak to, or distract the attention of, the driver..." but I don't think that was necessary.
Dashes
And here I find myself in an even smaller minority. I generally use spaced hyphens - like this - instead of dashes, and see nothing wrong in doing so. Yes, I know that it goes against all the usual manuals of style, and that if you look in a book you won't see hyphens used as dashes. But using — does make the source harder to read, something that doesn't apply in a book, and I think that is an important consideration given that also unlike a book, lots of people edit Wikipedia. As for my own articles, I certainly shan't object if someone wants to go through and change spaced hyphens to actual dashes, but I have no intention of changing my own style. I generally won't change my own style. Double-hyphens ( -- ) are sometimes handy, I am now forced to admit.
