Hello Kurogawa, welcome to Wikipedia.

You might find these links helpful: How to edit a page, How to write a great article, Naming conventions, Manual of Style. You should read our policies at some point too.

If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the Wikipedia:Help desk or (if you want a broader audience) the village pump, or ask me on my talk page. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian!

 • You can introduce yourself on the new users page.
 • You can find lots more information, including open tasks and daily tips, at the community portal.
 • You can sign your name using four tildes, like this: ~~~~.
 • Before saving a page, it's a good idea to use the Show preview button to review your edits. Also, consider writing a summary for each edit.
 • The Tutorial is a great way to learn the basics in a more perspicuous fashion.

Again, welcome! Chris Roy 00:43, 3 May 2004 (UTC)

image formats

Thank you for the contribution of the maps; images are always helpful around here. It'd be nice if you could upload the images in PNG format instead of BMP. There's some information about how to do so at Wikipedia:How to keep image file sizes as small as possible. If you have any questions, feel free to drop by my talk page.

The maps would most likely do best as PNGs; Image:Espirito Santo Map with Cariacica Municipality Highlighted.bmp is forty-nine times as large as the PNG I made of it, which is at Image:Espirito Santo Map with Cariacica Municipality Highlighted.png. If you convert images already uploaded, please list the obsoleted ones on Wikipedia:Images for deletion, after changing all the pages in which they appear to refer to the PNG versions. (See Cariacica for an example of this; I did this one for you.) I've listed the BMP on Wikipedia:Images for deletion, so you can see how it's done.

Thanks again for the diagrams! Again, if you have any questions, please drop me a note on my talk page. Grendelkhan 02:25, 2004 May 16 (UTC)

ifd listings

Thanks for listing the BMPs on WP:IfD. One quick thing---you should sign your additions on yellow-background pages like talk pages and IfD (though never on regular white-background pages). The reason I don't sign each image is that I list them in bulk, but I do put my signature (type ~~~~ to produce your signature) after each block of deleted images; it should look something like the following (the text you type starts with * :Image:foo.bmp):

* :Image:Someone_elses.bmp obsoleted by :Image:Someone_elses.png
**Someone_else 06:50, 2004 Jan 01 (UTC)

* :Image:foo.bmp obsoleted by :Image:foo.png
* :Image:bar.bmp obsoleted by :Image:bar.png
**~~~~

Brazil|C {{stub{stub}

Also, it's good practice to put on the image page, like so (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Image:Espirito_Santo_Map_with_Vila_Velha_Municipality_Highlighted.bmp&diff=0&oldid=3725348). But it's not as important to do for your own images as it is when you're listing images that you didn't upload yourself. (It serves two purposes: first, when someone's looking through images, it's easy to tell at a glance if something has already been listed on IfD. Second, people who have an interest in an image will most likely have it on their watchlist. The IfD notice will appear on their watchlist, and if they have some sort of attachment to the image, they'll argue in favor of keeping it.)

Does all that make sense? I can rephrase if it's murky. Glad to see that you got the PNG thing working.
