DJ Sanders
DJ Sanders is a playwright and the author of nineteen stage plays. Sanders' plays vary in style and theme from ten-minute plays to full-length works and from dramas tackling controversial social issues to absurd comedy. Six of his ten-minute plays have been published by Brooklyn Publishers (http://www.brookpub.com) and are routinely performed throughout the United States by high school students for Duet Acting competitions and speech tournaments, including the National Forensic League's National Speech Tournament and the National Catholic Forensic League.
Sanders has also worked on adaptations of classic. White Horses is a prequel to Henrik Ibsen's 1886 drama Rosmersholm. The National Library of Norway (http://www.nb.no/) has acquired White Horses for their Ibsen Archive. Sanders' Damascus Trilogy is a modern adaptation of August Strindberg's Expressionistic plays To Damascus, I-III, which deal with alchemy and a Damascus-like faith journey.
Newer scripts by Sanders explore the psychology behind characters that society would normally demonize. Temptations of the Father looks at the Roman Catholic Church sex abuse scandal and explores the psychology behind a Catholic priest who was forced to retire after allegations of molestation. CYPHER: variations on therapy, sex, and baseball analyzes the relationship between an attempted rapist suffering from mental illness and his psychiatrist. American obsessions with psychotherapy, sexual dysfunction, sexual fantasies, and baseball.
